Ellen Frances Lang arrived just before midnight on Monday evening, February 24, 1997.
Katherine was first induced last Friday, a week before her due date, because Susan, our first, was two weeks late and so big she had to arrive via C-section. Despite remarkably high doses of oxytocin (the labor-triggering hormone), nothing happened and we went home, an unusual and anticlimactic result. Undeterred, we tried again on Monday, and some hours later, Ellen arrived (via the normal route), still several days ahead of schedule.
Ellen weighs in at 8 lbs, 11 ounces, stretches to 21 inches in length, and nurses with real enthusiasm. An interesting surprise is that she seems to recognize her older sister's voice. Susan comments: "Baby goes 'Wah, wah, wah!'"
Katherine is well, and pleased to have avoided a C-section this time.
